As Director of Anatomy at Newcastle University and Human Tissue Authority (HTA) Designated Individual, I have the legal responsibility for the regulated activities of anatomical examination at Newcastle University and its satellite sites, namely, the Temporal Bone Laboratory at James Cook University Hospital Middlesbrough and the Newcastle Surgical Training Centre at Freeman Hospital.

I have a lead responsibility for developing the teaching strategy for anatomy, throughout the School of Medical Sciences, ensuring that the teaching methods used are innovative and produce successful outcomes for our students.  I am a member of the Executive Committee of Newcastle Surgical Training Centre which uses human tissues for surgical skills simulation and places Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Trust at the forefront of surgical skills training in UK.

I am a graduate of the University of Newcastle (Biomedical Sciences) and I gained my Post graduate certificate of Education, from the University of Durham. My academic interests and publications are focused on anatomy and widening access to Medicine.  My research interests are associated with innovative teaching methods and making anatomy accessible to students with learning difficulties.  I have been teaching anatomy for fifteen years and my expertise in the field has been recognised by both the Higher Education Academy and the CETL4HealthNE .
