The NSTC has hosted 3 Hip resurfacing courses per year since inception in October 2007.
These courses are run over 2 days and are directed at Consultant level delegates with a special interest in lower limb joint replacement, particularly the hip, together with senior trainees and specialty Fellows. The Faculty-delegate ratio is one-to-one enabling the entire procedure to be performed by each delegate with the additional opportunity to assist a second case, again with personal faculty overview, through to real device implantation.
Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) is a complex hip procedure directed at the young and active patient providing the potential for superior clinical results and activity outcomes when compared to conventional hip replacement (ref Lingard & Holland 2009). It is widely recognized, however, that clinical outcome is directly related to correct patient selection, full understanding of the surgical limitations and meticulous surgical technique. This course provides training in all three to a detailed degree from a distinguished national faculty with over 11 years experience in over 5000 procedures.
The emphasis is primarily on the practical surgery side, but this is complemented by a series of lectures, discussions and clinical cases based on first-hand unparalleled experience.
